We let Willow cut her hair. When you have a little girl, it’s like how can you teach her that you’re in control of her body? If I teach her that I’m in charge of whether or not she can touch her hair, she’s going to replace me with some other man when she goes out in the world. She can’t cut my hair but that’s her hair. She has got to have command of her body. So when she goes out into the world, she’s going out with a command that it is hers. She is used to making those decisions herself. We try to keep giving them those decisions until they can hold the full weight of their lives.

best of the northwest

Just finished up a 4 day road trip around the Northwest up to Deception Pass, across the sound to Hurricane Ridge, the Hoh Rainforest, Ruby Beach, Kaloloch, jumping into the Pacific Ocean, Portland, Mt. Rainier, then back to Seattle.

I think I properly impressed my East Coast friend’s with my state: their reaction to Mt. Rainier was: “holy shit, that’s some big nature.”

I miss you guys.

I hit the sidewalk and this is how it starts
Hide in a raincoat when things are falling apart

I don’t entirely understand this, but damn it is beautiful.

#friends

I have friends from the East Coast visiting this week, and giving them the full tour of my life and city, makes me realize how different Seattle is from Pittsburgh. Its weird to imagine not growing up here, and never having seen the sort of nature or cultural quirks that I experience on a regular basis.

Amelia Hooning

While I was in New York, I obsessively documented the view out my hotel window.

I got a chance to see Amelia’s senior thesis show today, it was really quite impressive.
